BODY OF WATER – Nadi and her mother Elsa live and work in a quiet, secluded farm in South Brazil. After a mysterious teen comes out of the lake, the local legend of the “Body of Water” becomes too real, and tensions increase.
CHICKEN – A chicken wanders from a quiet farm into the Los Angeles sprawl, embarking on a suspenseful journey through the city’s glimmering underbelly; seen through her eyes, felt through ours.

I would like to take a moment to extend heartfelt commiserations to the other 7 finalists, as a perennial runner up, I know how much it can hurt to almost make it. So sad AuPair didn’t make the Top 3. It’s a thoughtful story that desperately needs to he made. Still, congrats to all those who made the Top 3. I have yet to read Pushing Daisy and Body of Water, I’ll let you know my thoughts soon.

I loved “Chicken” and found the script to be so rich in its cinematic possibilities and its exploration of humanity. It seems so many festivals showcase really dark and “important” works - and that’s great. But every now and then you just want to see something fun and whimsical, but something that ALSO touches you. Chicken does just that. I really hope to see it get made.
I’m also thinking of the animated feature “Flow” that won the Oscar last year, and love that there’s a space in the world for such a thing. I see similarities between Flow and Chicken - although each has its very own unique story and world.
