My name is Florian, and I’m a writer/director based in Bucharest, Romania. My first feature film was released in cinemas last July, and I will be attending the Cannes Marché du Film this year. I’ve just submitted my new screenplay to the competition: Hyperstasis.
Hyperstasis is a cerebral science-fiction story in the vein of Solaris, Arrival, and Annihilation. It explores the idea of first contact not as invasion, but as a philosophical encounter with the unknown.
Logline
A lone astronaut en route to Alpha Centauri awakens when her ship is pulled toward an unknown gravitational anomaly in the Oort Cloud, forcing her to investigate a phenomenon that may redefine humanity’s understanding of the universe.
Synopsis
Laura, a lone astronaut traveling in hyperstasis toward Alpha Centauri, awakens decades into the mission when her spacecraft detects an unexpected gravitational anomaly deep within the Oort Cloud. With the ship’s artificial intelligence as her only companion, she begins investigating the mysterious phenomenon that has subtly altered the vessel’s trajectory and awakened her far earlier than planned.
At first, the anomaly appears to be nothing more than an unusual distortion in space. But as Laura studies the data, the phenomenon begins to reveal patterns that challenge every known law of astrophysics. The structure behaves less like a natural object and more like a vast system, something layered and complex, as if the fabric of space itself were organized in ways humanity has never imagined.
As the spacecraft drifts closer, the readings grow increasingly difficult to explain. The anomaly seems to respond, shifting in ways that blur the line between physics and something far more profound. Faced with the unknown, Laura must decide whether to remain a distant observer or step beyond the safety of the ship and confront the phenomenon directly.
What begins as a mission to explore another star gradually becomes something far stranger: an encounter that forces Laura to question the nature of intelligence, consciousness, and humanity’s place in the cosmos. The deeper she ventures into the anomaly, the more she realizes that this discovery may not simply change the future of space exploration.
It may redefine what the universe itself truly is.
