A thirteen-year-old suburban kid believes he is the reincarnation of John Gotti and attempts to order a hit on Sammy The Bull Gravano.
Okay; why has this not been thought of before? The writing is nothing less than genius humor and creative satire. I could talk about this one for days but want to hear others too.
When he smells the Sanition scent he felt a connection… Like how is this not incredibly mafia comic gold. The debacle with Sammy the bull, yet as 13 y/o. So much originality here connecting to Long Island Culture and Mob Mentality
Laugh out loud funny. Burst out cackling in the quiet room of the library at least five times through this.
“It’s a sad moment when a son realizes he can beat up his old man. For me that moment took place when I was five fuckin’ years old.”
This is a wild screenplay, the type of outrageous thing you can’t help but wish you’d come up with yourself. The parents are hilarious. I want to see Steve Zahn as the dad with his ‘real tough hombres’ gag.
i’ve only read this screenplay so far but wanted to know is there anything better to check out because this was so good everything else might be disappointing lol. i like comedy and mystery.
Hi Kiernan, if you like comedy I can recommend Dork Whore or The Mullers, which are very different to Mob Mentality but both extremely funny in their own ways. If you like a mystery, Decomposer and Meridian are both strong, though both have quite a horror spin too. Not sure if you like horror. Maternal is probably the closest I’ve read to a classic crime mystery - a true whodunnit kind of thing - but based on a real serial killer. Not a Poirot style, per se. More like Prisoners or Zodiac vibe.
thanks i’ll read one or two on the weekend
hysterical screenplay this has to make it into the next round
Yeah okay, the hype is real. This is so stupid it’s brilliant. It’s the little things that really made me laugh.
Like @meara said, I second Dork Whore or The Mullers.
Welcome to the community, @rdonaldsonsr3378! Glad you’re here!
Probably the funniest script in the competition. Seemed a little unrealistic from the treatment, but SO glad I read the full script. The tone of the narration makes the humor sing. Would like a different final scene though.
There’s definitely an absurdist quality to it Steven. It’s all execution based, I could see it being shot in a similar style to Raising Arizona. How would you change the final scene, what didn’t work for you?
Definitely a funny script. But, I had to fight myself while reading it. I kept mentally de-aging the main character. Think…Boss Baby. I had to remind myself…he’s 13. If I was an interested producer, I’d have to screen test this one. I’d have to see what it looks like with a teenager, because I just never settled into the mental picture.
what’s up man
I was picturing the kid from Deadpool 2 and Hunt for the wilderpeople
That’s more or less what I was picturing too. Or trying to de-age Jonah Hill to 13.
Hope this makes the next round. nothing else has jumped out at me like Mob Mentality.
I see that the author of Cooperville was in the comments answering questions. Is the author of Mob a user here, I would lvoe to pick their brain.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Yoni!
