Thanks for the responses on the best films of 2025 so far – it seems like, as expected, Kinolimers went crazy for Sinners, the bold and exciting storytelling that you folks resonated with and voted for in our competition.
Now I’m curious: what are you looking forward to next? Summer blockbusters like Fantastic Four: First Steps, Superman, 28 Years Later, or Jurassic World: Rebirth? Maybe a follow up from an auteur director like Materialists, Eddington, Caught Stealing, or Weapons? A legacy sequel like Happy Gilmore 2, Freakier Friday or I Know What You Did Last Summer? Or something to keep the kids busy like Zootopia 2, Smurfs, and Elio?
For me, it’s a toss up between Kathryn Bigelow’s long-anticipated return with House of Dynamite and Guillermo del Toro’s guaranteed bizarre adaptation of Frankenstein.
Let us know – as always, we’re keen to hear what has our community salivating, and what we should be looking forward to!
Running the risk of sounding redundant but I vote for Materialists and Sentimental Value along with Lucca. Going to throw in Together as well. Though the controversy has dampened by excitement a little.
Big fan of the original? We had a heated discussion in the office the other day about whether it’s an all time British classic or a rip off of Day of the Triffids and Resident Evil. I haven’t seen the newest one yet, but the fact it’s such a hit with critics but so divisive with fans has left me intrigued.
I’m very much looking forward to Sentimental Value. I’m a huge, huge fan of Elle Fanning. A little embarrassing take; Fanning in J.J Abrams’ Super 8 is perhaps the most evocative performance I’ve ever seen. I can’t explain why it spoke to me so much – maybe I was just the right age for it to influence me when that film came out, but I cried and cried. Fanning’s filmography is astounding compared to her peers and contemporaries, she’s been in the game so long and worked with so many of the greatest living directors! Truly underappreciated.
I thought 28 days later was just okay, not exactly a huge fan of the zombie genre. 28 weeks later was a pleasant surprise, very well done. I’m doing everything I can to avoid spoilers for 28 years later, hoping it lives up to the hype.
Haven’t heard of Sentimental Value and forgot about Super 8, thanks for the reminder. Like music, so much good stuff just gets lost and forgotten, disappears “…like tears in the rain”.
