Nice Knowing Ya, Hollywood!

100 days. $100,000 budget. A small group of TikTokers. The #1 indie film in America.

No Hollywood connections, film degrees, or $10M traditional budget, just some kids that wanted to tell an original, human story called Two Sleepy People (in theaters now).

Whether through the magic of the internet or the support of a community like Kinolime, it’s clear that people are tired of sequels, remakes, and reboots. Universal, Disney, Warner Bros., and Netflix are going to have to shift and adapt to bring people new and original stories if they want to stay in the game. Some people think they’re going away, but they have way too much profit to miss out on to do that!

Where do y’all see independent filmmaking in the next 10 years? How do y’all want traditional Hollywood to change and adapt?

We need more original movies

I’ve watched the trailer. It sure demonstrates that budgets need to fall, salary expectations need to fall, and a certain reality check during the post-streaming era (where revenues have collapsed) is in order. But on a positive note, if it becomes popular it may signal that original stories are returning to vogue.
