Things Have Gotten Worse

After a whirlwind romance, Emily begins to distance herself from her boyfriend Robert leading to her tragic and untimely death. In his grief Robert makes the impulsive decision to steal Emily’s ashes to gain closure.

Definitely delivered more than I expected from the treatment.

If anything, I’d like to have even more of Emily’s narration during the sparking of their relationship as a juxtaposition of how well they get along verses the mood and emptiness in her head. It might make it more bittersweet, inevitable and tragic to know her thoughts the whole time instead of being surprised along with Robert when he finds out what happens.

My main criticism though is that it is such a bleak ending. Robert can learn plenty from the experience without things playing out the way they did. I can easily see him getting the ashes, then being considerate enough of Emily’s parents to bring them back after he sees Emily one last time on the hill. He can even pinch a little out secretly and return the rest.
