Everything we touch, your phones, your heartfelt creative art, that m&m chips or kff burgers every single thing out there has a meaning and a consequence, all it takes is time to afflict touch. The current stressful world for addiction and continuous obsession of consumption lead me to something that could take you from a heartily beginning to a point where truth only looks like a game molded by the characters, imagine the master’s- father son translation or there will be blood- greed all meshed in a carrot empire and a bioweapon pushed as spy like ideal such as Tinker Tailor Spy all linking through a simple conflict of a sport collapse that went global and the investigation reveals what should’ve never begun at first sight.
I finished watching The master for the 8th time and all I could think about was that escape scene from the tight room where Joaquin phoenix ran away after the poisoning claims from the farmers, where he was chased through cornfield in distant passion hoping and skipping every step as he was a disordered character searching for a whole the entire time which he found definitely from the master. That only taught me one thing for my first feature screenplay, all we do, everything we say, every time we touch and every feeling we share with a slight touch or embrace from someone helps overcome the imperfections and find the control to our life’s.
Time Afflicting Touch is the story of Neo, a Nigerian compliance officer who builds his country’s greatest agricultural empire from a childhood experiment involving bees, lemongrass oil, and a beam of red light, only to discover he has been certifying a bioweapon the entire time. It is also the story of Liu, a Chinese federal operative whose daughter is being held hostage to guarantee her obedience to the people who sent her to bury that discovery. And it is the story of Selma, the scientist who built everything, saw everything, and spent three years quietly burning her own reputation to the ground so that the truth could land on the right people in the right order- the truth she wields for the viewers to believe.
These three characters are the film. Everything else, the underground farms, the uncle(master), the collapsed athlete, the Geneva hearings, the bilateral intelligence arrangement running beneath a carrot juice empire, is the world they have to move through to get to each other.
THE THING NOBODY ASKED FOR BUT THE FILM NEEDED
Its storytelling language draws from the institutional tension of Michael Clayton, the geopolitical investigation of The Constant Gardener, and the quiet paranoia of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Beneath the investigation sits the slow empire-building tragedy of There Will Be Blood/The Master and the creeping moral dread of The Wailing. These films proved audiences will follow a story that unfolds like a mystery and gradually reveals that the system itself was the antagonist
Before any of this, there is a game of ludo.
A father and a son sit across from each other in a small room after the worst day either of them has known. The father sets up the board. He calls for tea. He deflects every attempt his son makes to talk about what happened, three times, with a comment about the game, a request for a napkin, a remark about nothing. The fourth time his son pushes, the father looks up and asks not what happened but what the boy was trying to do. The board gets kicked, the pick pieces scatter as the father puts his son back in the chair with both hands and says the truest thing he will ever say to him, and then picks a ludo piece off the floor and sits back down.
The audience for this film already exists and they are hungry in a way that most studio development conversations are still catching up to. They are ready for an African story that does not position Nigeria as the place where the Western protagonist goes to find meaning. They are ready for a film where the institutional corruption is Nigerian and Chinese and European simultaneously, where no single nation gets to be the villain, where the architecture of what happened is bilateral and nobody’s hands are entirely clean.
The genre blending is the commercial proposition. Time Afflicting Touch opens like a family drama, moves through a trade conspiracy, arrives at an intelligence thriller, and closes on a man packing a bag to fly to Beijing to find a mchild.
