Treatment Styles

I’m digging all the style that everyone is bringing to their treatments. Some are basically a half-step to a look book. Or, a blending with a pitch deck.

It really brings nice flavor to the project.

I’m going to have to rework all my treatments, because even the slightest touches seem to up the professional feel.

Nice job, everyone.

Great insights folks. We actually don’t allow images in the treatments. We’ve learnt from past competitions that presentation is more of a sway than the quality of the writing, and as a story first production company, we want to ensure story is front and centre. In some cases people with great photoshop skills or the money to pay for professional standard pitch decks with graphic design rose to the top. Now it’s just text, it’s a more genuine interpretation of the screenplay. That’s the hope anyway!

Love hearing this. Hadn’t caught the distinction that I wasn’t seeing images. Now that you mention it…

Given that, I’m still impressed by the fact that just a touch of color/layout gives a treatment a bit of a boost up.

I mean, mine is dry, dry, dry. My idea of design was to bold the character names. Sure, the bold looks great…

Let’s just hope the story carries the day!

I’m thinking ahead to next year’s context, and I’m wondering how far is too far for style. Something struck me while looking at Override’s treatment, for example, is that it’s landscape, with white text on a black background. No images, of course, but it does certainly stand out.

So, where would the line be? Provided there were no images, would crazy colours for the page be acceptable? Black text on yellow backgrounds for example?
