Hello everyone!
I’m Ana Eliza, the writer of Unique, a screenplay I’ve been working hard on for years, and that was chosen among many amazing projects as one of the top 26 scripts.
The story follows Rose, a woman in her late 60s, who faces financial difficulties after losing the military benefits she and her late veteran husband relied on. With no work experience and limited job opportunities due to her age, Rose is forced to navigate an unexpected and unconventional path to support herself: the adult film industry. The screenplay explores themes of aging, labor, gender, economic precarity, and self-reinvention, following Rose as she confronts social prejudices and expectations while redefining her independence and purpose.
In addition, unlike many movies where nudity is always tied to the porn industry, I like to say Unique was created to show its human side. Why do people work in this industry? Why can it become their only way out? Through Rose’s eyes, we find the answer of those questions, learning that the people around her have more stories to tell than we might imagine.

Congrats on making the top 26!
There were some serious moments, some funny moments and I definitely got the theme that there are real people with valid motivations and lives in this industry.
That being said, I don’t really buy this woman in her 60’s turning to porn as a career choice, particularly when it comes out that she has had sex only once in her entire life. I feel like this turn NEEDS to be foreshadowed or set up in some way before she actually gets into the misunderstanding where she is exposed to the industry. And this could be anything (show her active fantasy life that she was never able to indulge with her wounded husband, flashback to her actually having an active sex life that was cut short by her husband’s injury) There is no reason she only has to have has sex once in her life except to make it an even bigger obstacle to overcome, but it also makes it less believable that she would actually consider this.
Set this up the right way, and I’m totally along for the ride!

I understand where you’re coming from; however, when someone needs to find ways to sustain themselves and doesn’t find anything else, whatever falls into their lap is often what they feel compelled to accept. That said, Rose does not enter this industry easily. When she first encounters it, she says no, regardless of the problems she is facing, until things become more serious and she can no longer see another way out (I believe this is explained more clearly in the script—the treatment had to present the concept of the story in only six pages, while the screenplay is 103 pages). Her fear of entering this world is also connected to her lack of sexual experiences.
That being said, the issue you raised is something I had in mind, and I did everything I could to address it as clearly as possible in the screenplay. I will be sure to continue working on it to make this part of the script sound more believable.

I totally accept that desperate times call for desperate measures. But is she? She has a very loving involved daughter whom she has a good relationship with, but we don’t get a reason why she wouldn’t ask her for help. Maybe Rose is too proud, or the daughter is so overwhelmed with other stuff that Rose can’t possibly imagine burdening her further. Something else to explain a little more explicitly.
