Final 3 Screenplays Announced!

Greeting Kinolimers,

More exciting news coming at you; we’ve narrowed down a thousand entries to just the top three. One of the remaining screenplays actually gets made! :film_projector:

A huge :confetti_ball: congratulations :confetti_ball: to the writers of Cooperville, Decomposer, and Mob Mentality!
Let’s meet your finalists and learn a little about their projects.

Andre Ford (@afordjr1)is the author of Cooperville, a :drop_of_blood: horror / dark comedy  extravaganza.

A series of racially charged disappearances leads a detective and a young group of people to a mysterious town with a shocking secret.

Read, listen, and vote on Cooperville here.

Next, meet Eric Landau (@el8990), the mind behind :bangbang: outrageous :bangbang: coming-of-age comedy Mob Mentality.

A thirteen-year-old suburban kid believes he is the reincarnation of John Gotti and attempts to order a hit on Sammy The Bull Gravano.

Read, listen, and vote on Mob Mentality here.

And finally, meet co-writers of the intense :drop_of_blood: horror / thriller :scream: Decomposer, Mason McDonald (@masoncmcdonald) and Tabitha McDonald!

A parasite that has taken over the mind and body of a realtor in southern Appalachia yearns for the impossible, to be human.

Read, listen, and vote for Decomposer here.

Check out our competition page or our blog post for more information on the writers and their projects.

Exciting times ahead, with an incredibly strong top 3 to select from. Go vote, share, and get behind the screenplay you want to see on the big screen. As a bonus thank you, Kinolimers who cast an early vote before June 23 to earn a bonus 5 Lime$. Happy voting – time to get collecting!

3 really good scripts. A very tough choice. Congratulations to all the writers.

Quick note: That logline for Cooperville could use just a bit of a rework to fully capture the hook. (Don’t hide the secret in a logline…especially when you’ve got such an amazing hook.)

so happy Mob Mentality made it. disappointed Meridian didn’t. Are the Decomposer authors married? Cute!

So, to make sure I understand…since I read all 3 of the finalists before this round…to vote for the winner, I just need to make sure my previous scores reflect my current vote? I didn’t see a separate place to vote outside of that.

Hi Paul! Great question – and thanks for being so engaged.

Just to clarify: for this final round, only reading or listening to full screenplays count as votes. Votes cast on the treatments were collected and counted for previous rounds, but are not applicable toward the final vote.

If you’ve already read or listened to the three finalists, no need to do it all again – but please log in, revisit the scripts, and update your scores to reflect your final preferences. Also, take a moment to review the updated voting form – we’ve added a few new questions to capture feedback with maximum efficiency.

Let us know if you run into any issues. Appreciate your help in choosing the winner!

Shame for Meridian, it’s been a super competitive year this year. Fingers crossed it’ll make its way to the big screen sooner or later, it deserves it! I hope you enjoy / enjoyed the top 3.

As for the question about the Decomposer writers, I’ll leave that to @masoncmcdonald to answer if he feels comfortable!

Hey, hey, @krosettasr10233! Tabitha and I are in fact happily married for 11 years. We collaborate together in nearly every aspect of filmmaking from writing, to producing, to editing.

I see in the newsletter a reward for voting is " audition opportunities for the winning film ". Can you tell me about this?

Just finished my voting. For me, it went: Decomposer, Cooperville, Mob Mentality. All were good. I couldn’t get comfortable with the themes around Cooperville, or it would have been my #1. As it sits, I’m happy to have voted Decomposer #1.

Honored and beyond flattered, Paul. I’m so grateful to have been chosen along with these two other incredible writers and their awesome stories.

Hi there – please see the official release below.

‘Kinolime’s top 3 finalist scripts are live now. We’re inviting aspiring actors to read, vote, and give feedback. In return? You’re guaranteed an audition for a 5-and-under role (five lines or fewer) in our next production. Great screenplays, sad Bitchin’ didn’t make it though. Next time baby.

Happy to take part. You guys are trying something different, and I’d like to see it work. And, selfishly, the more I read, the more I improve my own writing. Win, win.

It’s testament to the strong roster of this year’s competition that scripts as strong as Bitchin’, Meridian, The 47-Hour Weekend and many more couldn’t make the top 3. We’d love to see them all made!

Just finished voting today. For me, the best was Cooperville, followed by Mob Mentality and Decomposer. All of them deserve to be made and put on the big screen. It’s a shame that Meridian, Grateful Deaf and One More for the Road didn’t make the Top 3, but hopefully they can get made someday.
